Why would I choose a joint account?
If you're not yet 18, any financial institution in Colorado will require you to have an adult on your account. You may also want a parent on your account to help you with managing your living expenses, making payments, or receiving financial aid.
What will my parents have access to on my account?
As joint owners, your parents will have the same access that you do: to account history, debit card transactions, etc. They will be able to make withdrawals and deposits as well, or make inquiries by phone or in person.
If I'm the only person on my account, can anyone else get information about my finances?
The short answer is "no" if you are the sole owner listed on the account. Should you desire to allow someone else access to your account information we would encourage you to visit in-person with a banker at any of our branches or contact our Customer Service area at 800-883-8773 to discuss your options.
Do I need to be a U.S. citizen to open an account?
No, but you do need to be a U.S. citizen with a social security number to use our online application. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please visit one of our branch locations as we will need to collect additional information from you.
I would like my parent on the account but they are not a U.S. citizen. Can we use the online application?
Unfortunately, no. We can certainly establish your account, but if your parent will be a joint owner on the account, we would prefer to visit with you in person at one of our branches.
What do I need in order to complete the online application?
You will need the following pieces of information to assist you and any joint owners (such as your parents) in opening your account:
Why should I open my account online instead of when I get to orientation?
By opening your account online, you'll be able to save a ton of time waiting in lines at Preview. Opening your account online will get you a "VIP pass" to avoid standing in line for a banker or to print your student ID.
If I apply online, what should I expect when I go to get my RamCard Plus during my CSU Orientation session this summer?
First, you'll look for the VIP desk downstairs at the Lory Student Center (by Subway and the RamCard Office).
Present your driver's license, state ID card, or military ID to the banker at the desk.
We will quickly verify a couple of items and then have you sign for your new account.
You can make a deposit to your new checking account at that time.
We can answer any questions you or your parents have, or set up a time to talk later.
As a "thank you" for opening a RamCard Plus during Preview, you'll receive a $20 voucher to spend at the University Bookstore during your visit.
We will escort you to the front of the RamCard Office line to have your picture taken and printed on your RamCard Plus. (Say cheese!)
To open an account, what types of identification will I need?
For U.S. citizens completing our online application, a valid (unexpired) U.S. driver's license, state-issued ID, or military ID will all be accepted. If you only have a passport or another form of legal ID, please visit one of our branches to open your account. These forms of ID are not currently supported through our online application.
How many forms of ID do I need to open an account?
U.S. citizens must have one of the three accepted forms of ID, you only need one form of identification to complete the online application. If you are having difficulty locating ID from our list of accepted forms, please visit one of our branches for assistance.
Why are you asking for my student ID?
Your student ID will be used to create the RamCard Plus, which provides access to both your checking and your university accounts.
How does a RamCard Plus work? Is it a credit card?
No. A RamCard Plus is a great tool for simplifying your finances by providing access to your university RamCash and ID (usable at cafeterias, the library, and laundry services) as well as your checking account balances. Using your RamCard Plus as a debit card will draw funds directly from your checking account to make purchases.
Why do we ask for personal information?
We want to ensure that we provide you with the right products and services. Asking for information about you and how to intend to use your account helps us meet your financial needs and goals, both now and in the future.
Why do you need to know my mother's maiden name and city of birth?
We will use your mother's maiden name and city of birth to identify you when you contact us by phone. Having this additional data helps us keep your account information secure.
Why do you need my social security number?
Your SSN is required information to ensure we know our customers. We will use your SSN to securely validate your identity and make sure you are not a victim of identity theft.
Why do you need to know how long I've lived at my address?
Having an address history will help us verify your identity and reach you in the event of an issue with your account.
Do I have to make an opening deposit?
No. The RamCard Checking does not require an opening deposit. It's best to enter zero dollars and tell us you'll be funding the account when we see you at Preview.
This is my first checking account. How do I know what my transaction activity will look like in the future?
You may not know exactly what your transaction history will look like. As you complete this section to the best of your ability, simply ask yourself "Do I plan to have..." before each question and answer accordingly.
